Dr. Nicolaas

It is with great pleasure that our Fresno veterinary hospital welcomes Nicolaas Reijne DVM, to our team of dedicated staff members. Dr. Nicolaas will be available full time for all of your pets needs, including small animal diagnostics, surgeries, and emergency services.

Dr. Nicolaas was born and raised on one of the islands of Holland. Coming from a small village with 20 students he was able to bring his favorite pet to school with him. This pet was usually one of the family's cats or goats. This close bonding with his pets allowed his love and interest in animals to grow. In a village where there are more animals than people, the local veterinarian played a vital role in the community. This prompted Dr. Nicolaas to enter the Dutch Veterinary University.

In 1997 Dr. Nicolaas completed his veterinary studies and earned his veterinary degree from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Wanting to advance his veterinary knowledge, skills, and life experience he then obtained his license, after a short preparation, at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.

Dr. Nicolaas has had an exciting time with his veterinary career including working as a self employed veterinary surgeon, collecting and synthesizing scientific medical information in Holland and medical research in Italy. He worked for a brief time in a mixed animal practice in Alberta, Canada before moving to Los Angeles, CA. While in Los Angeles he worked for three small animal practices, one of which was an opportunity to work for a year and a half in the specialty field of cats. Ever open to new experiences Dr. Nicolaas then transferred his interest to the Emergency Medical Field where he worked closely for four years with Veterinary specialists.

Dr. Nicolaas brings with him a well-rounded background of working in the veterinary medical field. He is very excited to meet and begin working with all of the wonderful clients and patients at Cedar Veterinary Hospital. We ask you to join us in welcoming him to our family of friends. We thank you for you're continued confidence and trust and view this as an opportunity to make Cedar Veterinary Hospital even more accessible to your needs.

Dr. Nample

Dr. Nample was born in California in the small farming community of King City, in the Salinas Valley. He was raised on an 18 acre ranch in the country which gave him the opportunity to be involved in 4-H and FFA, and the animal projects that came with those organizations. His family raised animals for the local fairs, and had quite the barnyard of animals.

With an interest in animals, and later veterinary medicine, Dr. Nample attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, receiving his BS in Animal Science, and subsequently a MS in Animal Science at UC Davis, with a food animal reproduction emphasis. He chose a large animal track program at UC Davis while attending veterinary school and graduated in 1986.

For his first 12 years following graduation Dr. Nample was in an equine ambulatory practice in North San Diego County, both as an associate and also as a practice owner. In 1998 he arrived in Fresno and began working for the Central California SPCA. For the past 16 years he has worked in the Small Animal Hospital caring for client animals and shelter animals including dogs, cats and the occasional horse. His areas of interest within veterinary medicine include internal medicine, dermatology, geriatric care, and obesity.

Dr. Nample is a federally accredited veterinarian and also enjoys his involvement in organized veterinary medicine. He is a member of the AVMA, CVMA and local CCVMA veterinary organizations and has also sat on the admissions committee for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

While at home he enjoys his spoiled cat "BooBoo", and his desert tortoise "Sandy". Away from work he enjoys staying active by going to the gym or being in the outdoors hiking, biking or working in the yard.
